COMMERCIAL & INDUSTRIAL

PENFLEX

Penflex, based in Cape Town, is a leading South African manufacturer of high-quality writing instruments and practical homeware, dedicated to inspiring creativity and simplifying everyday life. In line with their commitment to sustainability, Penflex transitioned its factory operations to renewable energy in early 2025.

The project involves the installation of 1.3 MWp solar photovoltaic (PV) panels and a 2 MWh battery energy storage system, ensuring energy security, operational resilience, and reduced reliance on the national grid.

MANUFACTURING

NABOOM PLASTIEK

Our recent project for Naboom Plastiek in Limpopo is an example of Blue Energy’s real impact in communities. The company is one of the larger employers of the region, and by implementing a hybrid solar and battery storage system, we have secured the livelihoods of the staff of the company by providing not only energy security but operational resilience.

AUTOMOTIVE

BORBET SA

Blue Energy Africa has entered a landmark 20-year green-power agreement with Borbet South Africa, a leading manufacturer of light-alloy wheels for major automotive brands. The project involves the installation of over 5 MWp of solar photovoltaic (PV) panels and a 4 MWh battery energy storage system at Borbet SA’s facility in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape. This initiative will significantly reduce the company’s reliance on Eskom-generated electricity, ensuring operational resilience, reducing carbon emissions by 6,000 tons annually, and supporting sustainable production practices.

AGRICULTURE

SMUTS BROERS AGRI

Smuts Broers Agri, consisting of two neighbouring farms, is a prominent agricultural operation in South Africa committed to sustainable farming and energy efficiency. In early 2025, both farms transitioned to renewable energy with the installation of 280 kWp solar photovoltaic (PV) systems complemented by 300 kWh of battery storage, enhancing energy reliability and operational resilience.

The hybrid solar and battery storage solution significantly reduces reliance on the national grid, lowers operational energy costs, and minimises carbon emissions, contributing to a more sustainable agricultural sector.
